Hi there. My son is 15 and is using Keystone National High School. We are loving it. The material is up-to-date, all fo the tests come with the learning guide, the staff is very helpful, and they issue a legitimate diploma/transcript.
We checked out American School, because they are much cheaper, but I just did not like their class selection.

I’d like to recommend a online school for you. I began using it this year and enjoy it. I plan to continue using it. You can check out the site at morningstaracademy.org. This school gives you a diploma and keeps all of your grades. You are also able to interact with the teachers if you have questions about lessons. Finally there is an area to interact with the other students in the school.

The state we live in, as well as many other states have “cyber academies” where you can do your learning on-line through the academy. In our state, you can do most of it in the home, but are required to go in for a couple of days a week. Why not check and see if your state has this?
I did this when I was 17, sort of. At least, I got my GED when I turned 17 and immediately enrolled in community college. Then I went to a highly rated University. It was great! However, as a nontraditional student, you won’t get as many scholarship offers. If you are not interested in a full 4 year degree, get a vocational or associates in something like Radiologic Technology or IT networking. You’ll be making pretty good money in just a couple of years ($40,000+).
If all you want is a high school diploma, or GED, you only need to take the test. If you already have a solid high school education, but you HATE high school, then don’t bother taking classes to prep for the GED. Just go take the thing, or try a practice test to see if you are ready.
My point is, if you are old enough, don’t bother with all that extra busy work. I did the home-school thing when I was 16 with a tutor sent from the school-district, it was pretty useless. I’m not saying school is useless in general… just that advanced education was infinitely better.
If you feel some prep is needed, then seek out books or other resources at your local education department, or even library. It is NOT that hard.
Unless you are taking AP credit courses in high-school, or developing skills (atheletics, music) for a scholarship, high-school is a waste. It’s pretty ridiculous they keep most kids around for so long. Essentially, I only had 2 years of high school under my belt. Yet, I scored perfect in some areas of the exit exam, and well above average on the other sections. (Many others could easily do the same thing.)
I know some people love the social aspects of high school, but for those that don’t… and will not be in line for a large scholarship package, what is the point?

There are a lot of excellent homeschool curriculums which can be used. It’s also possible to design your own. A couple online resources for you to research are http://www.thehomeschoolmom.com and http://www.homeschool.com. Good luck!
